1) 2nd Thursday Shape Note Singing

Northfield Shape Note Singers sing once a month from "The Sacred Harp", Denson Revision (red book).

What Is Shape Note Singing?  Shape Note Singing is a unique form of musical expression that originated in early America. Here are just a few things that make this musical tradition unique:

~ We are not a choir: we sing for ourselves and each other
~ All songs are sung a cappella (with no instruments)
~ Singers sit facing each other across a “hollow square” and take turns leading songs
~ The music is printed with notes of different shapes, each shape corresponds to a syllable:
fa, sol, la, or mi
~ Participants are free to (and do) sing loudly!

2) 3rd Friday Song Circle

Beginning Friday, August 19th, we are adding a third evning of singing together at the Quaker meetinghouse.  Please bring any song you want to share.  We will have the blue "Rise Up Singing" and the red "Rise Again!" songbooks available, as well as the Quaker hymnal.  We will sing whatever songs people know, want to teach, or request.  All are welcome anytime between 7 and 9 pm.

3) 4th Thursday Community Singing

Northfield area community members are invited to gather and sing together. "Rise Up Singing" songbooks will be available, and if you have one, please bring it to use or share.

People of all ages and singing abilities are welcome - please come and bring a friend!
