Committee Corner: Religious Education
As the school year gets underway, the Religious Education Committee resumes regular and NEW programming. Here is what is in store for our kids this year:
For Pre-school and Elementary Ages
>From Susanna Laird
This fall in first day school we will be talking about some prominent themes in the Bible. We are using a book called "Images of God" and will be talking about the themes of light, wind, water, fire, the dove, and clouds. We'll also continue to read humorous stories and play games.
The holidays are always so much fun in first day school. We are looking forward to doing a lot of seasonal crafts.
Later on this year we would like to spend some time talking about other countries and cultures where people are experiencing hardship and learn about what others are doing to help those people. If anyone has any personal stories they feel would be related to that topic, let us know! It would great for the kids to hear first hand accounts.
For more information contact Susanna Laird or Kathy Funkhouser.
For Teens
>From Greg Tobin
I am starting FDS class for teens that will meet the 2nd and 4th week of each month at the meeting house.
My plan is to start out with about 5 minutes of classical religious education – then discuss one or more topics of current interest to teens.
Some possible topics include:
- War in the Middle East
- Racial issues
- Teen independence and responsibility
- Legalization and abuse of drugs
For more information, contact Greg Tobin.
