2016 Alaska Friends Conference Annual Session

“Deepening Spirituality to Build and Sustain Resilient Community”

This year we will continue to build our moral witness on Earth Stewardship by focusing on how music and art sustains deep community and how building the beloved community sustains our witness.

 

Program

 

  • Thursday evening, July 28:
    • 2:00-6:00pm – Arrival, set up of facilities, dinner preparation
    • 6:00-7:30pm- Dinner
    • 7:30-9:00 - Introductions, Welcoming, Queries
    • 9:00 - Film - “Soundtrack to a Revolution” (1hr, 22min.)

This film weaves interviews and archival footage to show how music

from the Black Churches and folk scene was central to the Civil Rights

Movement.

 

  • Friday, July 29:
    • 7:30-8:30am - Breakfast
    • 9:00-11:00am – First Meeting for Business
    • 11:00am-2:00pm – LUNCH and fellowship, (art station open)
    • 2:00-4:00pm – Engaging Youth:Christine Ashley, visiting from Friends Committee on National Legislation

Interactive conversation on FCNL work building youth leadership and

engagement.

  • 4:00-7:00pm – Dinner prep and Dinner

 Art station open; No scheduled program

  • 7:00-9:00pm – Making our Music, around the campfire

Bring instruments and music to share  

 

  • Saturday, July 30:
    • 7:30-8:30am - Breakfast
    • 9:00-11:00am – AFSC Accompaniment:Sonia Tuma, visiting from American Friends Service Committee

Presenting AFSC programs in communities most affected by climate

Disruption.

  • 11:00am-2:00pm – Lunch and Fellowship

  • 2:00-4:00pm - Deepening Spirituality, Rachel Ernst Stahlut, visiting from Friends General Conference

Sharing “Deepening Spirituality” resources recently developed by FGC.

  • 4:00-7:00pm – Dinner prep and Dinner

Art station open; No scheduled program

  • 7:00-9:00pm -- Telling Our Story

Bring examples of artwork, stories and poetry that illustrate building and sustaining resilient community.

 

  • Sunday, July 31:
    • 7:30-8:30am – Breakfast
    • 9:00-11:00am – Second Meeting For Business
    • 11:00am-12:00pm – Meeting for Worship
    • 12:00-2:00pm – Lunch, pack up, clean-up, goodbyes

  • Site Development CampJuly 16-17, 2016 – cleanup, improve, refurbish the deck – All are welcome.  More information forthcoming.
