A few Medford Meeting members and friends recently tried out his cute little OWL technology. It allows for a hybrid Meeting for Worship with some participants in the Meetinghouse and some at home, all on Zoom.
A number of years ago, Mary Ann Bacon was taking a walk in Mount. Holly, New Jersey, during her lunch hour, when she passed the John Woolman Memorial. Being a Quaker, Mary Ann knew about John Woolman, but what particularly drew her interest was the beautiful property. She loved nature and gardening, and so she knocked on the door and asked if she could help. That day began her long relationship with the Memorial as a volunteer and as a board member.
The Peace and Social Concerns Committee members are prioritizing their focus on poverty and food insecurity. This is due to increased hardships families have faced due to the pandemic. Donations have been made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Head Start families and the Al-Nasr Mosque.
The pandemic has also affected another of the committee’s projects. The welcome bags distributed to the migrant workers this past spring contained masks made by meeting members along with the usual personal care products etc.
With thanks to the Merion Meeting for submitting the content for this article in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment. During the Saturday, October 3rd virtual event, facilitated by Ross Mitchell, Pat Jordan performed the role of Carrie Chapman Catt, president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. The event was organized by Merion Meeting’s History and Archives Committee and was paired with an article on local Quakers who participated in the protests and demonstrations for universal suffrage.
