What's going on at WKFM

The FCNL Letter-Writing Group normally meets the third Thursday of the month.

A small group has begun to meet again after meeting virtually for the past few months.

When we meet, we usually gather at 10 am, in silence and progress to sharing of personal news. We consider current events and relevant topics for our letters on public policy issues related to the Quaker peace testimony as recommended by Friends Committee on National Legislation or group participants.

In July, Peace and Social Concerns asked Meeting to consider having a banner for West Knoxville Friends to display at rallies, marches, and other such events.  The original idea was to convey a message to participants, advocates of contrary positions, and bystanders to pursue peace in a peaceable way. PSC saw a need to have a calm, respectful presence at such events to remind all to practice nonviolent thoughts, speech, and actions even as we stand against war, injustice, and hatred.

West Knoxville Friends will take up a minute proposed by our Meeting's Peace & Social Concerns Committee in support of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons during second hour following silent worship and fellowship/refreshments time on Sunday, September 23, 2018.
