From the very earliest days of the project to build our new meetinghouse, Phil Jones took at least two photos almost every time he was at the old meetinghouse working as meeting secretary. The series taken from the top of the stairs from the UCPA parking lot down to the building site weren't very interesting once the building was closed in, but Terry Foss turned those taken from the woods, behind the chain-link fence, into a video to show how the building grew over the course of a year.
The tradition of Christmas Breakfast at Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting goes back a long way. Many friends turned out -- in spite of slippery road conditions in many places -- to inaugurate the tradition in the new meetinghouse.

On a crisp and beautiful Saturday morning, more than 40 Friends assembled at the old meetinghouse to transport all the items that had been packed to the new meetinghouse. They used a fleet of station wagons, hatchbacks, mini-pickups, and another fleet of handtrucks of every description. The only paid professionals removed the two pianos from the old Social Room and took the newer, better piano (donated by Roberta Foss) to the new Social Room. The other piano went to a member's home, as did one bench from the worship room.

These are after-thoughts from inspired messages and silence shared on Sunday, the first day of September 2013, as we contemplated the move to the new meetinghouse during this time, this season, the “right time under heaven” for our move.
After several days of taking but not posting pictures, I have finally updated the slideshows you'll find on the Construction page of the campaign website.
The new meetinghouse for Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting is, as of 20 August, just a couple of weeks away from completion. Landscaping has begun, and paving of the driveway and parking lot were completed on August 20. The parking lot features paving that is permeable to rainwater; rain will soak in and pass to underground retention basins, from which it can then slowly trickle back into the water table, rather than overwhelm the storm sewers.
