Memphis Friends Meeting - Visitors Are Welcome

News & Announcements

The 7/16 Meeting for Learning focused on the six very distinct but positive experiences of Memphis Friends attending the SAYMA yearly sessions in Berea, KY. The slideshow included the "minute of thanks" that was included in the minutes (which are available in full on the sayma.org web site).

At the 10/23 Meeting for Learning Diana, Adrian, and Shahin shared what they have experienced, first and second hand, within the spiritual retreat process that SAYMA's Ministry & Nurture Committee underwent over the past year. One harvest of that retreat year has been a new report, the State of the Yearly Meeting Report, that is in addition to the traditional State of the Monthly Meetings Report. Attached is the 2022 State of the Yearly Meeting Report. It can also be read in context in the Yearly Meeting documents on the SAYMA web site:

Dear Friend,

You are invited!!!

SAYMA is embarking on a new phase of its anti-racism work which will include ongoing, supported, small groups engaged in study, worship sharing, spiritual deepening, and discussion. White folks will be learning with other white folks, and Friends of Color will have their own Friends Center for Racial Justice-facilitated group to pursue their distinct needs in this work.

Small groups will meet monthly, via Zoom. (Additional meetings, either in person or online can be self-organized.)

At the 06/26 Meeting for Learning, Friends gathered to hear updates from the 2 Friends who attended the yearly gathering remotely and 4 Friends who attended the gathering in person. Friends spoke of the joy of reconnecting with old Friends from the SAYMA region, the richness of worship sharing, and the pleasure of being in the company of young Quakers. Friends also spoke of the conflicts evident in business meeting, with several Friends noting signs of emerging health in the ways those conflicts were addressed.

Workshop proposals for this June's SAYMA gathering are due April 25. The theme this year is "Seeking Spirit in Each Other."
