Please post only Hanover Friends Meeting/Quaker Activities.
Two carloads of Hanover Quakers joined hundreds of others at a peaceful "Accompaniment Rally" at Manchester NH's Federal Building on June 6th. Standing in the cold, drizzly weather, we listened to many inspiring speakers why it is important for ALL of us to stand with immigrants, regardless of their legal status, as the federal government pushes to find excuses, however flimsy, to deport the people who do the work of harvesting our fields, caring for our older adults, and nurturing our children. When a wage-earner is deported, her family is left broken.
About 30 (or more!) years ago, Bill Ballard planted trillum in our garden. Bill's wife Elizabeth was a founding member of Hanover Friends Meeting, and was active in the meeting for over 30 years. Even after she suffered a debilitating stroke, she attended meeting regularly, with the loving support of her husband Bill. Elizabeth died in 1992, at age 80. Bill Ballard was a renowned biologist and professor at Dartmouth College, and one of his many passions was flowers, especially wildflowers.
On Saturday, May 13, 2017, Quakers attended a fascinating talk by Julian Grant who lived and worshiped with Cuban Quakers from November, 2016 - April, 2017. Having just graduated from St. Andrews University in Scotland, Julian had a leading to explore the depths of his own faith while living among Cuban Quakers who have practiced their unique style of worship in the relative isolation of their island nation.
We'll gather after Fellowship to act on the business that keeps our spiritual community ticking.
Among other topics on the agenda, we'll hear our Treasurer, Jack Shepherd, give the 6-month, year-to-date financial report.
We'll also have an update on the ways we hope to connect with people in the Upper Valley who yearn to deepen the spiritual dimension of their lives.
Please plan to come!
