What Is Harmful Behavior?

Harm happens when someone hurts someone because of their identity (race, ethnicity, ability, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, religion, etc).

This can be:

  • Someone saying something mean about someone else’s identity
  • Someone being treated differently because of how they look, talk, or behave
  • Someone being left out or ignored because of their identity
  • Someone making assumptions about someone else based on their identity
  • Any action that makes someone feel bad about who they are because of their identity
What Happens If I Tell Someone?
  • We* get your report (what you share is private)
  • We respond based on what is shared
  • We put together a Support Team of at least three people, including caring youth (16+), adults, and your parent/guardian if you’re under 18
  • (If you were harmed) You stay in control (you choose the steps)
  • (If you caused harm) Thank you for wanting to grow and learn; what happens next is about what the harmed person needs, and we are here to listen and learn with you
  • We focus on helping everyone find what can help them start to feel better

*”We” means the people you choose as your support team and alicia (or another FGC staff member if desired).

Do I Have to Fill Out This Form to Tell Someone?

No. You can get share/get help by:

  • Coming to the Friends of Color Center
  • Finding a trusted friend or youth (16+)
  • Finding an FGC staff member or volunteer
  • Finding your parent/guardian or another trusted adult
