QUIP and FGC
Friends may have noticed that the Quaker Youth Book Project of Quakers Uniting in Publications is hosted by Friends General Conference, a service organization for Friends in the liberal unprogrammed tradition in North America. You may also have noticed that the project coordinator has an FGC e-mail address and staff position, and that all of the contact information given for the project is consistent with the FGC office in Philadelphia. An explanation is probably in order.
The website www.quakeryouth.org is a project of the Youth Ministries Committee of FGC, which has been supportive of this project since its inception. That partnership includes generous web hosting on their aptly named website. YMC has an ongoing interest in ecumenism among younger Friends, so this project is consistent with their leadings and work as a committee. QUIP is thrilled to be able to host this project on their site. Materials will also be available at the QUIP website.
Further, because QUIP is small and largely volunteer-run organization without dedicated office space, sharing space from FGC allows us to have access to some of their office resources while receiving support and encouragement from them as an organization. A close relationship with FGC by no means indicates a bias towards Friends in the liberal unprogrammed tradition.
We are actively seeking input, support and minutes of support from Friends in all branches of the Society. QUIP officers and members maintain spiritual and logistic oversight of all aspects of the Youth Book project, and QUIP is the sole financial steward of all funds associated with it. QUIP’s mission has always included work to build bridges and facilitate conversations between Friends from many traditions, and we continue to be dedicated to that work.
