FGC is pleased to introduce our Quaker Voluntary Service (QVS) Fellow for the 2015-2016 service year, Richie Schulz! He will support the efforts of FGC’s Ministry on Racism Program, overseen by Coordinator Vanessa Julye.

Raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Richie became acquainted with the Quaker Way as a student of the George School in Newtown, PA. He is a recent graduate of Ursinus College Collegeville, PA, where he pursued dual degrees in philosophy and applied ethics as well as a minor in politics. While at Ursinus, Richie co-authored a paper during his semester abroad in Japan that examined moral repair and human experimentation during World War II, organized a student activist group to facilitate conversations about race and privilege on campus, and toured the Mississippi Delta as part of a course on religion and the civil rights movement. When he has a spare moment, Richie enjoys going to concerts, dancing, and preparing the perfect pasta dish.

As a QVS Fellow, Richie will work with FGC’s Ministry on Racism Program and serve on the Diversity Committee. He will help coordinate and attend the 2016 White Privilege Conference (WPC) in Philadelphia, the Pre-Gathering Retreat for Friends of Color at Gathering 2016 in St. Jopseph, MN, and other events facilitated by the Ministry on Racism. He will also reach out to Yearly Meetings in the United States and Canada with regards to the Ministry on Racism.

During his service year, Richie will reside in the Philadelphia QVS service house with seven other QVS Fellows under the spiritual care of Green Street Monthly Meeting and Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting. Richie’s placement with FGC is possible thanks to a generous grant from the Shoemaker Foundation.

FGC extends a very warm welcome to Richie and the rest of the QVS Fellows in Philadelphia!
