The White Privilege Conference offers the opportunity to help challenge and dismantle white supremacy. It assists its attenders in struggling with privilege and in finding ways of living more justly in the world with commitment to understanding, respecting, and connecting with others.

Richie Schulz is the Ministry on Racism support specialist and Quaker Voluntary Service Fellow at Friends General Conference. Working for FGC he has gracefully risen to the challenge of helping coordinate a national conference with a contingent of more than 200 Friends for the upcoming White Privilege Conference.

The White Privilege Conference offers the opportunity to help challenge and dismantle white supremacy. It assists its attenders in struggling with privilege and in finding ways of living more justly in the world with commitment to understanding, respecting, and connecting with others.

Richie Schulz is the Ministry on Racism Support Specialist and Quaker Voluntary Service Fellow at Friends General Conference. Working for FGC he has gracefully risen to the challenge of helping coordinate a national conference with a contingent of more than 300 Friends for the upcoming White Privilege Conference.

2016 is the 6^th year of FGC’s participation with WPC, and is by far the most engaged role FGC has ever taken with the Conference. As members of the host and executive committees bringing the WPC to Philadelphia, FGC’s Ministry on Racism has helped with logistics, sponsorship, and outreach, as well as coordinating Quaker registrations and assisting Friends in receiving discounts.

Richie is proud to be promoting and organizing the White Privilege Conference in a time when it is critical to be doing this work. He is excited to be creating opportunities for Friends to go deep and confront their privilege, with necessary time to truly work through these challenging issues. He hopes that Friends attending WPC leave the Conference revitalized in their work toward a more just and equitable community both within the Society of Friends and the broader world. 

Richie is hopeful the White Privilege Conference will have a positive ripple effect invigorating activism in Quaker communities across North America. “There’s been a lot of great talk, concern, desire to understand, and hopefully this will allow people to see past just the importance of knowing and move into action. This is the doorway opening, inviting Friends to walk through and explore a whole world of social justice and Quaker spirituality. We have to take those active steps so the testimonies of Peace, Integrity, and Equality do not go missing from our Quaker circles, institutions, and spiritual lives.”
