to prepare a minute of purpose.

Central Committee initiates Planning Process, asks Presiding Clerk to
appoint a small, ad hoc committee.
Ministry and Nurture (with CC approval) creates three-year, experimental "Nurture Coordinator Program" to support meetings; engages half-time volunteer coordinator.

Central Committee receives initial report on draft Minute of Purpose,
agrees to continue planning process.
Executive Committee establishes and appoints members of the Discernment in Long Term Planning Committee (DiLTP).

Central Committee approves Minute of Purpose and four "Major Goals,"
with help from DiLTP Committee.
DiLTP Committee and program committees work on objectives.
Spring: Publish Worship in Song, A Friends Hymnal
Summer: First, experimental regional conference: "FGC Religious Educators' Institute."

and develop a Long Term Plan.

Central Committee approves the FGC Long-Term Plan: 1998 - 2003
CC approves the new Traveling Ministries Program (outgrowth of "Nurture Coordinator Program," but with support from several committees and with a full time, paid staff coordinator).
CC approves expansion of Religious Education Program and staff time.
FY 99
Central Committee approves expansion of Publications Program and staff
time, including staff support for FGC Web site.
CC approves major, three-year development campaign with $2 million goal, later named "Nurturing Quakerism: The Campaign for FGC."
Web site developed, including online Bookstore Catalog.
Second regional conference: "Nurturing the Nurturers, " in South Carolina, draws 150 Friends.

October: Religious Education holds successful "Young Quakes Conference"
with 70+ young Friends.
