Color Me Quaker Coloring Book
By Mary Snyder. Published by Friends United Press. Paperback, 24 pps., $1.50.
These simple line drawings were perfect to use with young children. Although no direct curriculum material accompanied the pictures, they easily lend themselves to just about any lesson you would care to prepare on early Quakerism. When we colored the pictures of George Fox, we taught the children the George Fox song. We talked about old England, the clothes people wore and their lives. We cut out the pictures the children colored and made them into puppets. We used the puppets in the telling of the story of George Fox, letting the children act out the scenes of the stories we told them. We were also able to talk about early Quaker worship, meeting houses, children meeting when their parents were taken to jail, and the Quaker testimonies: simplicity, caring for one another and "that of God in every person." This is a good book for teaching the basics about early Quakers. For More Information:
