Jesus: The Wisdom of God
What is the Wisdom tradition? How is it used in the Gospels and early Christianity? Why do the Divine Feminine, mysticism and the early Quakers claim this tradition? How can Wisdom still speak to us today in the complex, challenging 21st century?
I have been reading and thinking and holding in the light the Wisdom tradition since I made it a part of my workshop, Jesus: Revolutionary or Mystic, last year. My workshop is still mellowing in my mind, but as usual we will use the Bible as our base and have a number of experiential activities to deepen our understanding and, hopefully, transform our “tight places.” I have also found Truth in the ancient symbol of the spiral, which represents the way Wisdom function to bring us back to Spirit.
I’m not sure what I will recommend to read. A number of last year’s participants loved Cynthia Bourgeault book, The Wisdom Jesus. Another support book is Lilian Calles Barger, Chasing Sophia: Reclaiming the Lost Wisdom Jesus. But I feel I will be providing most of the reading, other than the Bible passages. I will use my usual format which is worship or worship sharing bracketing the workshop, which has 2 sessions with a break. That usually breaks down to 40 -45 minutes of worship, and 2 hours of discussion and activities.
This year, in addition to my own reading and meditating I’ve found myself in correspondence with a number of Friends. They have helped me over my own stuck places. I also prepared a short version of the workshop for Salem Quarter (NEYM) in March.
