Meeting for Bicycling
God is everywhere, not just in a meetinghouse or a college classroom. We will be seeking God in the flatlands around BGSU. Expect no hills and lots of bicycling. We will ride at least 10 miles, with some of us riding up to 40 miles.
God is certainly in the meeting house, and hopefully attends the FGC Gathering, but He is equally at home in the experiential world. We will be seeking out His glory in the countryside surrounding Bowling Green. The area is quite rural, so we will have some quiet roads to ride along, but it is flat, flat, flat. Pancakes envy its flatness. The topographic map has contour lines every five feet and not very many of them either. Standing up to get on your bicycle will elevate you more than most of our rides. Did I emphasize enough how flat it will be? Making up for the flatness will be the wind. We will have at three ride lengths set up, and will split up into groups as we feel led for the day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Expect to own and wear a helmet. Expect to ride fast and far (at least by your definition). Expect to be physically exhausted and spiritually refreshed. Expect to have ridden your bicycle several times before you come to the gathering. Expect to have your bicycle in good working order, with the tires inflated and chain oiled. Expect to out-ride your demons. Expect that some of us will have tools and repair skills, but do not rely on that. Expect to split up into different length rides, but expect to stay together as a group within those rides, to share any joy and any pain.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many opportunities for extended worship at the Gathering. This workshop is not one of them. We will have enough worship to be able to ride grounded, but not so much as to interfere with the goal of this workshop: to make direct contact with the divine through experiencing the beauty and glory of His creation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advance preparation: before you go out on your daily, weekly, or bi-monthly ride, reflect for a few minutes that each ride is a tender gift from God, without which your life would be poorer. Wear a path to that place.
