High School Counselor Information

Dear Friends,

We are beginning to assemble the dynamic and inspiring team of committed Friends who will shepherd and counsel the 2008 Gathering High School Program, and we ask you to consider submitting an application for the staff position of counselor.

Here are the practical details: tentatively, the program staff for this year will consist of 16 counselors with support groups, 1 or 2 float counselors, an intern and the coordinators. The Gathering will be at The University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown, PA. High School staff members are expected to arrive early in order to participate in training that begins the morning of Friday, June 27. All staff members are expected to live in the dorm and be available to program participants throughout the week.

In recognition of the depth of commitment on the part of High School staff members, counselors receive work grants for full room, board and registration fees. The intern will receive a grant covering room and board costs. You should not let financial concerns prevent you from considering this opportunity. Please let us know early in the process if travel costs are a concern. Many local meetings may also assist Friends in this area.

On this website, you will find more information on the characteristics we have found vital to be a successful High School staff member, as well as an application form. Please return this form to the FGC office as soon as possible. As of May 1, we continue to welcome new applications. If you otherwise would plan to attend Gathering, do not hesitate to register for the Gathering as well as submitting your application.

We do not accept every application, and prior experience with the program is no guarantee of automatic acceptance. Even if you have worked on the High School staff in previous years, please take the time to prayerfully consider the application queries.

If you would like to support the High School program and also want to have significant time to experience other aspects of the Gathering, consider applying for the new High School Right Hand Friend position. While the Gathering may seem far away, the 2008 High School Program is already well under way. The planning committee has been meeting since last spring and the High School Clerking Committee met recently at Pendle Hill to begin their care for the High School community and its processes. Please give thoughtful consideration to joining this community as a member of the High School staff.
