Who should come to the EQBT?

Anyone who is excited by the description should consider pedaling with the EQBT. Because we will travel through parts of Appalachia, there are a few serious climbs. If you don’t have bike riding experience or don’t think you can undertake a training regime, this might not be the ride for you. We don’t want anyone to be miserable. That being said, because this is a supported tour, you only need to get yourself to the next destination, and you can always stop and rest. This is a ride, not a race. We want everyone to have a good time.

Age

The EQBT is open to all cyclists ages 15 and above. Riders under 18 will need to have parental/guardian release consent forms.

Physcial fitness and training

Start riding! Whether it is in a spinning class at the ”Y” or commuting to work or school – start getting on a bike now. On the weekends, take longer rides and make sure you get some sprints, hill workouts, and just long rides (20+ miles). Find your local bike club or shop-sponsored rides. Off the bike – do lots of stretching, and cross training activities like Frisbee or hiking. Yoga is a favorite of many cyclists, and we will do some stretching on the trip to maintain strength and prevent injury. Do some weightlifting and core strength training. If this kind of activity is new to you – it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor before jumping into a brand-new exercise regime.

Notes for parents of unaccompanied minors

We plan to make this ride both fun and safe. The organizers will ensure that there are capable Friendly Adult Presences as part of the trip. Expectations will be consistent with FGC behavioral agreements for young Friends attending the Gathering. Riders who do not keep these agreements will be asked to leave. Parents/Guardians will be expected to be able to pick-up the minor rider within 24 hours notice.
