Field Secretaries from various yearly meetings gather annually to share their skills and experiences. In the early 1990s Marty Walton, then General Secretary of FGC, and Jan Greene, field secretary for New York Yearly Meeting, offered to compile a notebook of resources that members of the group use in their work with meetings. FGC Publications will publish the manual section of these essays and resources in print form within the next few months under the title Fostering Vital Friends Meetings. An extensive listing of workshop and study resources will be listed in the manual. FGC hopes to make these available to Friends in the near future through its website. What follows is an excerpt from the manual.

Characteristics of Healthy
Meetings and Worship Groups

Jan Greene and Marty Walton
One of the responsibilities of field workers is to help meetings grow into healthy communities of faith where individuals and the community can deepen their relationship to God and be more responsive to God's leadings. As we have been able to work with meetings in all stages of development from tiny worship groups to large city meetings, we have come to recognize some of the signs of healthy, vital meetings.
