Water Has Memory

Walking back from the auditorium
to my dormitory in late evening,
I was passing the peace tree
planted earlier that day
and saw a man loading spades
and other tree-planting equipment into a truck.
“I’m sure this tree will be much bigger the next time I see it,” I said to him.
He said, “I learned that water from around the world watered this tree.
I read that on the bulletin board at the student union.”
“Yes, my dormitory roommate even brought water that came from Mecca,” I answered. Nodding thoughtfully, he said, “Water has memory.”
