FGC is hiring a Development Manager

Provisionally approved March 2023

General Statement: The Development Manager works closely with the Associate Secretary for Development to plan and implement a comprehensive development program. There is strong collaboration with the communications department to ensure clear messaging is shared supporting FGC’s mission and vision. There is a strong emphasis on writing and telling the stories of Friends and meetings to share the positive impact of FGC ministries.

It is preferred for the person filling this position to work out of the Philadelphia office, but not necessary. If the position is remote, some travel to Philadelphia may be required. The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory (unless you have a medical exemption). Applicants must live, and be authorized to work, in the USA.

Desired Qualifications

Education: College degree or equivalent experience.

Required Experience:

  1. Writing for a targeted audience with a focus on clarity and impact.
  2. Microsoft Excel experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to learn new technology skills.
  4. Working on multiple projects while setting priorities and meeting deadlines.

Desired Experience:

  1. Working with a well-run development program for a non-profit.
  2. Running annual giving campaigns.
  3. Experience working in a database. Especially Salesforce, and experience running reports.
  4. Writing grant proposals and reports.
  5. Working with volunteer committees and recruiting and supporting development volunteers.

Skills:

  1. Researching, organizing, and interpreting data.
  2. Organizational skills necessary to manage the complexity of Development communications projects, including working with vendors, managing mailing lists, and collaborating with program staff.
  3. Ability to create compelling content and incorporate extensive feedback.
  4. Ability to create simple video content.
  5. Photography skills are a plus.

General:

  2. A commitment to anti-racism work, including ongoing training, and an understanding of anti-racism work as a Spirit-grounded ministry.
  3. Supportive of FGC’s mission and goals.

  6. Able to travel occasionally and work some weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Development and Fundraising

  1. Work with staff and volunteers to formulate and execute annual giving plans. The goal is to build strong relationships with donors and increase the annual fund which currently raises about $640K.
  2. Interview Friends and gather strong impact stories.
  3. Complete the Annual Impact Report, including gathering, analyzing, and reporting on program impact and data. Plan, draft, and manage about three direct mail and online appeals per year, including working with outside vendors on design, printing, and mailing.
  4. Generate donor acknowledgments for all gifts and send acknowledgments for all non-major gifts. Ensure that contributions are acknowledged promptly and effectively following United States IRS regulations.
  5. Responsible for grant applications and reports (about 3-5 per year).
  6. Assist with occasional major fundraising campaigns, as requested.

Communications and Outreach

  1. Create simple video content to share about the impact of FGC.
  2. Create development content for and post on social media platforms including creating graphics on Canva and/or Adobe PhotoShop or Illustrator.
  3. Write articles and impact stories for the monthly FGC newsletter “Vital Friends”.
  4. Ensure the FGC website reflects the needs of the development program.
  5. Travel to one Yearly Meeting session a year to interpret FGC to Friends.

Administrative and Other Tasks

  1. Schedule visits with donors for the General Secretary and Associate Secretary for Development and coordinate travel arrangements. 
  2. Attend Development Committee meetings, Central Committee, the Gathering, and other events, in consultation with the Associate Secretary for Development.
  3. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Hours:                   Full time (35 hours/week)

Supervises:          None

Salary Range:      Band 4, expected hire range $48,000 – $52,000 exempt, plus full benefits. 

Benefits:               Employer pays 90% of health insurance for employee and minor dependents, provides a 403(b) retirement account with employer contribution of 7% plus a 3% match, 24 paid vacation days, 12 paid sick days, and 11 federal holidays observed. Flexible schedule, remote work option.
