FGC is seeking a Quakerbooks/Quakerpress Intern
INTERNSHIP FOR:
QuakerBooks/ QuakerPress Web content development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for someone who has good writing and communication skills, knowledge of Quakerism, and either experience on working with websites or an ability to learn quickly.
DUTIES INCLUDE
Generating, reviewing and updating web content
Entering new Books and other items in to our databases.
Finding and manipulating cover images for these books.
Uploading both on to our Website.
Writing (or often finding and customizing) “Book Blurbs” for books, and also reviewing and rewriting when needed “blurbs” for books already on our website.
Reviewing and replacing poor quality images on the website.
Describing and entering on the web used/antiquarian Quaker Books – Describing the condition of the item and quickly describing contents of books, after researching them.
Using web content to generate printed material – such as Subject lists, and flyers. We are especially keen to generate material on Race and Racism resources for all ages.
We would encourage you to conduct author interviews similar to that with Parker Palmer http://www.quakerbooks.org/interviews/the_vocation_and_soul_of_an_educat...
We also want to generate more use of the comment feature on the website and you would be encouraged to contact authors to make comments on their books, and find other quotes that can be posted about important Quaker books.
Develop book guides for topic areas, or encourage Friends with expertise and interest to post same.
Possibly develop a “new book” blog
Bookstore work
Prepare flyers tailored to individual Yearly Meeting booktables with regard to themes, workshops and speakers. Help prepare and ship large consignments of books going to the FGC Gathering, and many regional Yearly Meetings. Researching Yearly Meeting schedules and workshops to identify needed books.
Other bookshop work, such as dealing with enquiries and processing consignments.
Our Systems
You will be working with Square 1 our Unix based point of sale and Bookshop inventory system.
While our website uses a combination of “Movable type” and Drupal, and we have several programs to transfer data between Square1 and the Website.
Images are mostly manipulated in Paint Shop or Paint.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is an uncompensated position, we are open to individuals available for part time work only.
